PAT Testing (ITEE)
PAT Testing, now officially known as ITEE or Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment, is a legal requirement for businesses across the UK. It ensures that all electrical equipment in your workplace is safe to use and meets current standards under BS 7671 and the IET 5th Edition Code of Practice.
This is not just a formality. Employers have a legal duty to keep electrical equipment safe under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
Why Has The Name Changed?
The term PAT Testing only covered portable appliances. The updated terminology reflects a broader scope: any electrical equipment that could pose a risk now needs to be inspected. This change drives better compliance and ultimately helps prevent serious incidents in the workplace.
Your insurance provider will expect ITEE testing to be part of your Health and Safety compliance pack.
What Does Testing Involve?
Our engineers carry out a thorough visual inspection of each item followed by full electrical testing. Any failed items are photographed and clearly noted in your report. We also flag advisory issues such as damaged cables or worn sockets at no extra cost.
You will receive a clear, easy to read report. Once testing is complete, we will walk you through the results and advise on any next steps.
How Often Should Testing Be Carried Out?
Testing frequency depends on the nature of your business and the equipment in use. Higher risk environments may require more frequent checks. Our team can advise on the right schedule for your site based on your specific circumstances.
What Happens If Items Fail?
Any item that fails testing will be clearly identified in your report. We can advise on repair or replacement and help you keep your records up to date so you remain compliant and ready for inspection.
